Leonid Tomilin was born in Ukraine (Zaporozhye) in 1958. He has university education: artistic and graphic art faculty (Odessa) and architectural faculty (Dnepropetrovsk). He is a member of professional organization of the artists since 1992.

Biography

Since 1989 he took part in various exhibitions in Germany (Koeln, gallery “Nil”), France (Saint Just le Martel), Spain (Marbella), Austria, USA, Poland, Belgium, Iran, Japan and England. The last exhibitions:

- February 11-26, 2001 - Exposition “Unknown Russia IV” in C.A.S.E. Museum of Contempopary Russian Art in Jersey City (USA);

- December 2001 - II Biennial of contemporary Russian graphic and sculpture in C.A.S.E. Museum of Contemporary Russian Art in Jersey City (USA);

- March 12, 2002 - Charity auction “Russia to America” in support of the 11th September terroristattack aftermath liquidation in Grant Gallery in New York (USA).

- April 30 - May 4, 2008 - Europ’Art2008 in Geneva (Switzerland).

About 250 works are in private collections and galleries in Finland, Sweden, Germany, France, USA and other.

About technique

Conventionally Tomilin’s drawings can be classified as “expressive romanticism” or “new realism”. In another case it is “abstract expressionism”. However the determination of style or genre is of no importance, moreover in our case where the combining of the most unexpected forms naturally get on with in persuasive result.

The spectrum of plots and forms is quite wide. From genre sketches and illustrations to abstract expressive compositions.

The artist declared drawing as independent genre of the fine arts with its own laws and conventionalities.

Masterly terse composition is the creed of the artist.
